WHAT IS ADVANCED DRIVER TRAINING? The laws of physics dictate a vehicles safe operating envelope within various environments and human beings have very definite limitations. CTEC helps drivers understand what the vehicle and human limitations are and how to stay within those limits by teaching the specific mechanics of the driving task. FULL COURSES: ADT Light Duty, ADT Heavy Duty
1.5-2 Hours: Classroom Presentation
Course Outcomes:
Includes an introduction to vehicle dynamics and human behaviours to increase the participants’ understanding of the fundamentals of CTEC’s 5 key competencies that will be utilized later on-track. Students are assessed with a final written multiple choice test.
Participants manoeuvre the vehicle forwards and backwards through space restricted stations; Serpentine Manoeuvre, Multi-radius Manoeuvre, Parallel Parking, and Garage Parking. Most companies experience the greatest financial costs through the accumulated expenses of what are often considered “minor" incidents. Vehicles have certain dimensions and steering geometry. CTEC helps the participant to understand their vehicle dynamics and then the mechanics necessary to negotiate space-restricted areas.
There is little training, if any, in standard driver training to prepare a driver for collision avoidance. An Advanced Driver knows exactly how to brake, exactly where to look, and precisely how to handle the steering wheel in an emergency situation. Participants get an understanding of how to safely manoeuvre a vehicle within the proven human and vehicle limitations. Reduce the stress of handling a vehicle during an emergency situation with; Offset Serpentine Manoeuvres, Sharp Cornering, Quick Lane Change, Ditch Entry Drill, and Decision Maker Manoeuvre.
No one can possibly know how to recognize or correct a skid unless they have been specifically trained to do so. There is a lot of misinformation out there about how to recover from a skid. This is the first major difference between CTEC instructors and others, they have a complete understanding of the science behind a skid and how to recover. Combining that knowledge with a state-of-the-art Skid Truck gives the participant a learning experience that is unmatched. The CTEC Skid Truck uses a proprietary system to simulate a more slippery surface so that when a skid occurs, it is dynamically real. Other systems in the market place simulate a skid; the skid is not real. Other systems in the market place are limited to simulating rear wheel skids, not even real skids. The difference just might save your life!
Also known as the Simulator or SIM module, participants are assessed on critical decision making abilities, identification and prioritization of hazards, and appropriate actions in a realistic state-of-the-art Driving Simulator. There are a large number of on-road hazard that cannot be presented or duplicated on the track due to how dangerous they are. This is where the CTEC Driving Simulator is deployed. The Simulator allows the participant to “drive" in realistic environments and encounter realistic hazards. The main benefits of the Simulator are threefold: · Exposes the participants to hazards that cannot be done in any other way

Day One: Classroom Presentation
Day Two: On-Track Modules
Course Outcomes:
The classroom is an Alberta Transportation recognized Professional Driver Improvement Course (PDIC) and entitles successful participants to demerit point reduction from their driver’s license. CTEC’s PDIC is significantly different than the standard “death by PowerPoint" that is so frequently delivered. CTEC’s approach is to motivate the participants to adopt better driving habits by discussing scientificallly supported vehicle dynamics and human behaviours. The program also includes an Hours of Service (log book) review and an AirBrake review. Participants begin day two with a pre-trip inspection of their vehicle, including a manual air brake inspection.
